(JTA) — A neighborhood patrol of religious Jews helped capture a check forger trying to bilk a church.
Brooklyn’s Shomrim Patrol cruised the neighborhood in their patrol car with the clerk of a check-cashing store after Wajid Hussain, 23, allegedly tried to pass several forged checks in the name of Our Lady of Refuge Church, The New York Post reported. They tipped off the police to Hussain’s location.
"I’m grateful that Shomrim does what it does," the Rev. Michael Kerry, the church’s pastor, told the Post. " In protecting their own community, they protect the whole community."
