JERUSALEM (JTA) — An Israeli lawmaker has proposed putting the phrase "We believe in the Creator" on paper money.

Nissim Ze’ev of the fervently Orthodox Shas Party introduced a bill Monday to the Knesset requiring that Israel’s paper money contain the declaration, Ynet reported.

"Money and bills are the center of our life, and it is befitting that the money issued by the State of Israel will be a reminder of Jewish faith," Ze’ev said. "Even those who don’t uphold the mitzvot will be reminded in this way of the foundation of the religion of Israel."

Ze’ev pointed out that American money declares "In God We Trust."
