NEW YORK (JTA) — Protesters called on the Red Cross to press for visitation rights for abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

More than a thousand mostly younger protesters rallied outside the humanitarian group’s New York City office Wednesday, Ynet reported. Shalit has not received visits since his 2006 abduction by Hamas in a cross-border raid and little is known for certain about his condition.

"For three years the Red Cross has done nothing to help Gilad," said Hagit Hadar, one of the protest organizers.
