JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Palestinian was killed by Israeli police officers as he attempted to run them over in East Jerusalem.
The 20-year-old driver, Iyyad Azmi Awisat of Jabel Mukaber, attacked the police Tuesday as they sealed off the area surrounding the home of a Palestinian who killed three Israelis with a bulldozer in Jerusalem in July.
Three border policemen were injured in Tuesday’s attack.
Village residents cheered and shouted "God is Great" as Awisat’s body was removed, Ynet reported.
The living quarters of terrorist Hussam Dawyyat was demolished, leaving the rest of the home available to the family members still living there.
Last June, Dawyyat drove a bulldozer through downtown Jerusalem overturning cars and hitting two buses, killing three and injuring dozens. The demolition, designed to deter future terrorists, came after a long court battle.
