JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s Air Force attacked a Hamas outpost in southern Gaza.
Palestinian sources told Ynet that an Israeli helicopter fired two missiles on the Khan Younis headquarters of the Hamas security services. The building had been damaged during Israel’s military operation in Gaza. No one was injured in Thursday’s attack.
The attack was in retailation for the barrage of Kassam rockets, mortar shells and Grad missiles fired at Israel in recent days, according to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces spokesperson’s office.
At least three mortar shells were fired Wednesday into southern Israel from Gaza and a Kassam landed near Sderot shortly before Israel’s polls closed Tuesday.
More than 40 rockets and mortar shells have been fired from Gaza into Israel since Israel and Hamas each declared a cease-fire in mid-January.
"As the sole authority in the Gaza Strip, Hamas bears full responsibility for all terror activities originating within its area of control," the statement said.
