(JTA) — A 14-year-old boy died in Israeli air attacks on the Gaza Strip.
News reports said the boy was among four people killed in the attack on the Shabura refugee camp in southern Gaza, in one of about 40 air raids on Gaza Friday, the 21st day since Israel launched major operations Dec. 27 after Hamas ended a cease-fire with a massive intensification of rocket attacks on Israel.
Close to 1,000 Gazans have died in the fighting, about half of them civilians; 13 Israelis have been killed, including three civilians.
Targets hit Friday included weapons smuggling tunnels on the Egypt-Gaza border, Israeli army officials said.
Israeli forces thrust deeper Friday into the crowded neighborhoods in Gaza City as negotiators in Cairo reportedly drew nearer to a cease-fire agreement.
