BUDAPEST (JTA) — Two right-wing activists were denied permission to demonstrate in front of the Budapest’s main synagogue.

Budapest police on Tuesday said they rejected the request by Gyorgy Budahazy and Laszlo Toroczkai to protest in front of the Dohany Street synagogue because it would hold up traffic on a major thoroughfare.

Budahazy and Torockai, who have organized several violent, extreme right-wing demonstrations, wanted to protest the Chanukah celebration organized by the Jewish Agency for Israel scheduled for Dec. 21 at Heroes Square, a national memorial site.

Earlier Tuesday, representatives of Hungary’s opposition Alliance of Young Democrats and Christian Democratic parties in a public statement protested the possible
demonstration.
