Talks between Iran and six world powers were “a step forward,” Iran’s president said.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told reporters in Iran Sunday that the previous day’s negotiations, which included the participation of U.S. State Department official William Burns, were “forward-moving.”

The six international powers – Russia, China, France, Germany, Britain and the United States – gave Iran two weeks to stop its nuclear activities or face tougher sanctions.

Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili, would not discuss a freeze on the country’s nuclear work, insisting it was for peaceful purposes.
