The chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff is in Israel to discuss Iran and other regional issues.
Adm. Michael Mullen took off time from a European tour Saturday to fly into Tel Aviv for a 48-hour visit hosted by his Israeli counterpart, Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi.
Officials on both sides said Iran’s nuclear program is high on the agenda for Mullen’s talks in Israel, as well as other issues of concern to Jerusalem and Washington. He also was scheduled to tour Israeli installations on the Gaza Strip border.
Israel recently has hosted a variety of high-ranking U.S. officials, spurring speculation that joint military action against Iran could be in the works.
