The Israeli manager of Chelsea soccer club was fired.
Avram Grant, who shot to international fame last year when he was named to manage the premier British soccer team, announced his termination Saturday.
The move came after Chelsea lost the Champions League cup to Manchester United last week in a penalties round.
Chelsea is owned by Russian-Jewish oligarch Roman Abramovich, who is said to be a friend of Grant’s. But that did not save the veteran Israeli coach, whose surly disposition had won him few points among the club’s fans and the fickle British sports media.
