Israeli soldiers fired on a crowd of Palestinian protesters near a commercial crossing on the Gaza Strip border, killing one.
Scores of Palestinians gathered Thursday near the Karni crossing as part of a Hamas-coordinated protest against Israel’s embargo on Gaza. Approaching the border, they drew fire from an Israeli military garrison. Along with the Palestinian killed, at least five others were wounded.
Military sources said the crowd behaved in a threatening manner and included several armed men.
Israel has been on guard for an attempt by Palestinians in Gaza to storm its border, as they did in January on the southern frontier with Egypt.
