Israel’s foreign minister and the chairman of the Democratic National Committee will speak at the United Jewish Communities’ annual General Assembly.
Tzipi Livni and Howard Dean will be featured at the opening plenary in Nashville, Tenn., on Nov. 11.
The three-day conference, which annually draws several thousand Jewish federation officials, also will feature as speakers Rabbi Dr. Jacob Schachter, who will serve as the scholar in residence, Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen and the head coach of the University of Tennessee’s basketball team, Bruce Pearl, who is Jewish.
The theme of the conference is “One People, One Destiny,” which is meant to underscore the ability of the collective Jewish community to contribute to humanitarian, educational and social causes as a whole.
“The thousands of delegates gathering in Tennessee next month will absorb three days of provocative programming and discussions on the most current and challenging issues facing North American Jewish federations and world Jewry,” said the UJC’s chairman, Joseph Kanfer. “Through networking, training, sessions, forums and workshops, G.A. participants will return to their communities equipped to be effective, passionate and visionary Jewish leaders and community builders.”
