Lebanon reportedly is on the verge of repatriating the body of an Israeli soldier.

Agence France-Presse reported Monday that Israel would free a jailed Lebanese prisoner and return the bodies of two Hezbollah guerrillas killed during last year’s war in exchange for the remains of the soldier, whose identity was not given.

The report stirred speculation that Israel could be about to retrieve one of the two army reservists seized by Hezbollah in a July 2006 border raid. Blood stains at the scene indicated that one or both may have been killed outright.

Hezbollah and Israel declined comment. In addition to the captive reservists, Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser, six Israeli military servicemen are missing in action in Lebanon or Syria.
