Mahmoud Abbas has agreed to talk to Hamas.

Israel Radio reported Wednesday that the Palestinian Authority president and his Fatah Party will meet with Hamas for secret talks in Cairo mediated by Egypt.

Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip in June. In a Washington Post interview last week, Abbas said he would not join again in a government with Hamas, and that he had adopted the U.S. stance on the terrorist group. The United States demands that Hamas renounce violence, recognize Israel and adhere to existing Palestinian Authority agreements as a precondition for talks with the terrorist organization.
