A neo-Nazi rally planned in the Serb city of Nov Sad was banned following pressure from human rights groups and Jewish organizations.

The police banned the so-called March for Serb Unity by the National Front planned for Oct. 7 on the birthday of the Nazi SS commander Heinrich Himmler.

Himmler masterminded the murder of Serbs, Jews and Gypsies in what was then the Kingdom of Yugoslavia during World War II.

The World Jewish Congress, most Serbian political parties and Serbian human rights groups had pushed the Novi Sad local government to ban the rally. The police said the demonstration could not take place because ‘because it endangered public morals and public safety’.
