A Florida school board voted unanimously to allow the nation’s first Hebrew-language charter school to resume teaching Hebrew.
The Ben Gamla Charter School in Hollywood, Fla., had been prevented from teaching Hebrew less than 48 hours after its August opening over concerns that the curriculum contained religious content.
On Tuesday, however, the Broward County school board permitted the teaching of Hebrew, The Associated Press reported.
The school’s curriculum will continue to be closely monitored, with lesson plans submitted monthly for district review. Superintendent James Notter said the school district would work to help Ben Gamla create teacher training programs to help ensure the separation of church and state.
