Israeli President Moshe Katzav resigned.
Katzav submitted his resignation letter on Friday. It will take effect Sunday.
Katzav’s resignation is pat of a deal in which he prosecution dropped rape charges in exchange for a suspended sentence for indecent acts, harassment and obstruction of justice, as well as payment of financial damages to two of his four accusers, all former staff.
His critics and accusers were outraged by the deal and a poll published Friday in Yediot Achronot showed they had public support. Of 503 respondents,. 69 percent opposed the deal. The poll had a margin of error of 4.4 percentage points.
