An anonymous Orthodox American Jew has contributed $1.5 million to a campaign that rebuilds Palestinian homes destroyed by Israel, the Jerusalem Post reported. The Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, which made the announcement Monday, said it plans to rebuild 300 Palestinian homes after their expected destruction by governmental agencies. Committee Director-General Jeff Halper disputed the government’s claims that the homes need to be destroyed because they were illegally constructed or posed security risks. Halper said Israeli policies are biased against Palestinians, so it is difficult for them to obtain the necessary permits.”This is really part of a continuing policy of displacement and dispossession” of Palestinians, he told the Post, declining to name the U.S. donor funding the organization, which only has rebuilt about 35 homes in the last 10 years.
