Palestinian factional fighting flared up anew. Palestinian gunmen killed two leading Fatah militiamen in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, sparking a revenge raid in which two Hamas men died. A senior Hamas official was also kidnapped, presumably by Fatah loyalists. The violence ended an almost two-month lull in Gaza secured by the Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas and President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah. Last week, the rival factions sent their gunmen together into the streets in a move billed as bringing new security to Gaza.
