Israeli and U.S. officials declined to comment on reports that their agents are suspected in the disappearance of an Iranian
general. Arab and Turkish media reported this week that Ali-Raza Asgari, a
veteran of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, went missing while on a visit to
Istanbul last month. Given his sensitive position and West’s standoff with Iran
over its nuclear program, media reports suggested that Israel’s Mossad and the
CIA were involved in the incident. A Turkish official was quoted as saying that there was no record of Asgari
leaving the country of his own, and therefore the disappearance was being
treated as suspicious.
