The legendary Exodus captain was arrested for driving without a license. Yitzchak “Elik” Aharonovitch, 83, became a modern Zionist icon for eluding a British naval gauntlet in order to bring Jewish refugees to prestate Israel on the ship Exodus – a voyage that was later immortalized in a Hollywood film of the same name. Aharonovitch was caught in a routine police inspection while on a shopping trip Saturday. Police discovered that he had been driving on an expired license for 18 years. The retired skipper was released but his car was impounded.
