U.S. Republican congressional leaders are urging President Clinton to follow through on his promise to impose sanctions on Russian companies and institutions that supply missile technology to Iran. House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.) said in a letter to Clinton that there can be “no more delays, no more half-hearted enforcement” because “our national security is imperiled.” The letter came in response to Iran’s successful test last week of a missile capable of reaching Israel.
