MOSCOW, July 24 (JTA) — Valentin Oskotsky, a literary critic and anti-fascist activist, was assaulted near his Moscow home this week. The incident took place on the site where Oskotsky, the editor-in-chief of the Moscow writers’ weekly newspaper, Literaturnaya Gazeta, was beaten two years ago. At that time, the unidentified men stole from Oskotsky the manuscript of the anti-fascist book, “Does Russia Need Hitler?” Oskotsky, a liberal intellectual, believes there is a connection between the two attacks. He and a group of his colleagues are currently suing the author of the anti-Semitic pamphlet “Dictionary of Masons” who has called Oskotsky and some other Russian intellectuals “secret criminals.”
