A Catholic priest, the Rev, Benjamin Nunez, criticized the late Pope Plus XII for his silence during the Holocaust. Speaking at a reception for delegates to a Latin America forum on the situation of Soviet Jewry, Father Nunez said that, like President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the head of the Catholic Church kept silent because of other interests. This mistake should not be repeated, he said. “You must not shut up now, not now or ever, when a human being is persecuted,” he declared.
