Israeli officials paid tribute today to the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the slain Negro civil rights leader. President Zalman Shazar sent condolences to Mrs. King. Foreign Minister Abba Eban called the slain leader “an historic figure in the struggle for freedom and equality” whose work “will live long after him.”
Israeli newspapers described the brutal murder of Dr. King as the “tragedy of a nation doing so much to help others” but unable to overcome its own problems.
