Dr. Bernhard Zondek, one of the world’s leading gynecologists and professor emeritus of gynecology at the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem, died here yesterday at the age of 75. He was codiscoverer along with Dr. Paul Aschheim, a pathologist of the Aschheim-Zondek test in use today throughout the world to determine pregnancy in the first month.
Born in Germany, Dr. Zondek left the country when the Nazis came to power and emigrated to Palestine in 1934 where he served as professor and head of the hormone research laboratory at the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School and Hospital. He became professor emeritus in 1961. He was the author of numerous works on gynecology and obstetrics and was affiliated with the leading professional societies in his field throughout the world.
At the time of his death, Dr. Zondek was conducting a research project at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University.
