Soviet discriminations against Jewish religion were analyzed at the annual conference here of the Yivo Institute for Jewish Research which is closing its sessions tomorrow. Dr. Simon Segal, director of the department for foreign affairs of the American Jewish Committee and member of the Yivo board of directors, presided at the session at which Negro-Jewish relations were also analyzed.
Dr. Erich Goldhagen, lecturer in political science at Hunter College, reviewed the fight against Jewish religion in Russia since the early days of the Bolshevik revolution till today. Milton Himmelfarb, director of Information Service of the American Jewish Committee, spoke of the role which Jews play in the civil rights struggle in this country. Other subjects dealing with historical developments in Jewish life have been discussed at previous sessions at which Prof. Harry M. Orlinsky of the Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion, and Prof. Michael Astour, of Brandeis University were among the principal speakers.
