Katriel Katz, until now Secretary to the Israeli Government, at Jerusalem, assumed here today his position of Israel Consul-General in New York, with the rank of Ambassador. He succeeded Arieh Eshel.
Born in Warsaw in 1908, Ambassador Katz came to Palestine in 1924; headed the public relations and education departments of the Haganah; was official spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces in 1949, joined the Foreign Ministry in 1949, and was the Government’s official envoy in Hungary and in Poland.
