Reaction to the execution of Adolf Eichmann, as reflected by the American press and other communications media, was on the whole content with reporting the facts and branding Eichmann as a mass murderer who had received his just deserts. Radio and television news broadcasts, as well as newspapers, featured the news prominently, mostly branding Eichmann as a war criminal who had committed “monstrous” crimes. Editorials in The New York Times, New York Herald Tribune and the Journal-American endorsed the final outcome.
The Central Conference of American Rabbis revealed today that it appealed to the Israel President to commute Eichmann’s death sentence to life imprisonment. Rabbi Albert G. Minda of Minneapolis, president of the CCAR, and Rabbi Leon I. Feuer of Toledo, vice-president, made the appeal for clemency in a cable to President Ben-Zvi.
