Funeral services were held here today for Elliot E. Cohen, editor of Commentary, the magazine published by the American Jewish Committee, who was found dead at his home this week-end with a plastic bag over his head. He was 60.
Mr. Cohen was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and raised in Mobile, Alabama. He entered Yale University at the age of 14, and was graduated at 19. At 24, he became the managing editor of the Menorah Journal, a bi-monthly publication aimed primarily at Jewish college and university students. In 1945, Mr. Cohen was asked by the American Jewish Committee to establish Commentary of which he was subsequently named editor.
