Judge Griffith Williams issued an order today requiring the commander of the Xylotymbou camp to appear before the Cyprus Supreme Court Dec. 29 to show cause why 5,164 Jews now held should not be released. The order followed a hearing at which the detainees lawyer, Col. Weston, maintained that these detained persons were held solely as being of military age, adding that the Cyprus laws do not justify the detention of the Jews on such grounds.
