In Frankfurt-am-Main Jews were picked up on the streets by blackshirted Nazi Elite Guards posted along the Jewish quarter and the main thoroughfares. The Nazis halted pedestrians demanding proof of “Aryanism” and carrying off all “non-Aryans.”
The United States consulate was stormed tonight by 3,000 Jews who pleaded in vain for asylum fearful of further reprisals after the funeral in Duesseldorf of Ernst vom Rath, German Embassy official assassinated in Paris by a Polish Jewish youth.
The press continued its anti-American campaign, the Berlin Nachtausgabe stating that President Roosevelt’s declaration on Tuesday was a cover for the United States’ imperialistic aims in South America.
