Governor Julius L. Meier of Oregon yesterday received a delegation of the “Chofetz Chaim” Yeshivah in Poland, and after listening with great interest to the story of the work that is being done by this Yeshivah in educating rabbinical scholars for Eastern Europe, the Governor decided to donate a scholarship for this Polish institution.
The delegation which visited the Governor and which is now touring the country on behalf of the “Chofetz Chaim” Yeshivah consisted of Rabbi Koppel Kanano of Bilovies, Poland, and Rabbi L. Sapir of Palestine. The delegation was introduced to the Governor by the local rabbi, J. B. Fain.
“Chofetz Chaim” is the name of one of the most famous Orthodox rabbis in Poland, who heads the Yeshivah and after whom the institution is named.
