Synagogue membership is not the same thing as commitment. I have watched over the last 40 years as the Conservative movement has made Jewish observance more and more optional. Research has shown that children raised by Jewish parents marry Jewish and stay Jewish. Anyone who has decided to not marry Jewish is already lost and to believe otherwise is foolish.
