As a writer who piles rather than files, I totally get this man. If we had patron saints, this rabbi would be mine. Only the Jews!

Loving Jews and loving Israel, I still find it hard to muster sympathy for individuals who violate the law and then cry foul and abuse those who come to enforce it. I have even less sympathy when such law breakers desecrate grave stones, destroy fruit-bearing trees (a Toraitic violation!) and assault bystanders. Using children as human shields doesn't much impress me either.

Carter's efforts are foolish and counterproductive. But the two women who hope for his death and make attacks on his sexuality actually transgress Jewish values even as they think they are defending the Jewish world. We cannot help oursleves by disregarding our own ethics and standards of hesed.
