Singer’s novel was based on the historical figure Shabtai Zevi who lived in the 1600s and proclaimed himself the messiah, had thousands of adherents, and then converted to Islam.

The victims forgot the lessons they should have learned from their parents about the Great Depression. Or their parents

didn’t teach them to be skeptical of unrealistic returns.

There was once a false messiah that I.B. Singer wrote about in Satan in Goray and how the people followed him. This Madoff was a false messiah of greed. The falso messiah ended up converting to Islam. I don’t know where Madoff is heading yet.

One really hopes that Madoff and all who facilitated his frauds spend their lives in hell.

How many sophisticated investors just let him steal the money entrusted to them by organizations and trusting individuals.

Hadassah hospital - now that’s really hitting home.
