Israel, U.S. conclude air defense drill

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Israel and the United States concluded a major air defense drill.

The exercise between the Israel Defense Forces and the U.S. European Command, called Juniper Cobra 2010, was designed to improve cooperation between the IDF and EUCOM military forces, according to the IDF spokesman.

The exercise that ended Monday was held for the fifth time. It is held every two years and is planned a year-and-a-half in advance.

Approximately 1,400 U.S. personnel from the four services of the U.S. military and an equal number of IDF personnel participated in the drill.

"During the past two weeks, our two forces have stood together and fought through a very challenging scenario," said Rear Adm. John Richardson, commander of the U.S. Joint Task Force. "We have brought together new technologies and new procedures. We learned some very valuable lessons and had a tremendous result. I want to thank the Israeli people, and especially the Israel Defense Forces, for their hospitality and cooperation."
