More Israelis die of swine flu

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Four Israelis with swine flu have died in two days.

The deaths, which bring the total number of deaths in Israel related to the H1N1 virus to 36, are the first since Sukkot.

A construction worker, 19, died Monday, two days after falling off some scaffolding, according to the Jerusalem Post. It is not known if he became dizzy as a result of the virus. A 57-year-old man who also died Monday had a chronic illness in addition to contracting the virus.

On Sunday, a year-old infant suffering from heart and lung problems and a cancer patient, 64, died after contracting the virus.

About 4,300 Israelis have been infected with the H1N1 virus, and at least eight are seriously ill with the virus in intensive care units throughout the country, according to reports.

Swine flu vaccinations will be given to the Israel public beginning next week.
