PA reinstates Al-Jazeera in West Bank

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- The Palestinian Authority will allow Al-Jazeera television to operate in the West Bank.

Palestinian Prime Minister Salaam Fayyad revoked the news network's suspension for "false reporting" on Saturday. But, he said, the PA will sue the Qatar-based Arabic news channel "for its continuous incitement against the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian National Authority," Al-Jazeera reported.

The network was banned Wednesday after broadcasting allegations Tuesday, attributed to a senior Fatah official, claiming that PA President Mahmoud Abbas conspired with Israel to kill Yasser Arafat in 2003. Arafat died of natural causes, but some Arabs believe Israel secretly killed him.

Human Rights Watch and media watchdog groups condemned the suspension.
