Hezbollah arms cache explodes in Lebanon

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- A series of explosions in Lebanon near the Israeli border were in a Hezbollah arms depot, Lebanese army officials said.

The area where the arms cache exploded Tuesday is considered to be a Hezbollah stronghold, according to reports.

The explosion triggered panic among local villagers, according to Ynet, who thought it was an Israeli air raid.

Lebanese sources said the weapons were left over from the Second Lebanon War in 2006.

Hezbollah has refused to disarm, as required by the United Nations resolution that ended the war. Resolution 1701 mandated the disarming of all militias.
