Israeli Arab convicted of spying for Hezbollah
An Israeli-Arab tracker for the Israeli army was convicted of spying for Hezbollah.
Sgt.-Maj. Louis Balut, the Israel Defense Forces’ first Christian tracker, was sentenced Thursday by a military court to 11 years in jail for giving the terrorist group military information on troop deployment and for meeting with a foreign agent.
Balut, who also was discharged from the army, said he was “no traitor and no spy,” Ha’aretz reported.
Balut, a father of three from a village in the western Galilee, met more than 20 times with a Hezbollah operative and spoke with him on his cell phone.
