Russian cemetery vandalized again

Gravestones were vandalized in a Russian Jewish cemetery that has been attacked several times this year.

Some 21 gravestones were discovered vandalized in the Krasnaya Etna cemetery in Nizhny Novogorod, according to an Aug. 15 report by a Russian news agency.

Police detained two suspects, aged 11 and 13, in the incident, and will determine whether to bring charges, according to the Union of Councils for Jews in the Former Soviet Union.

The cemetery was vandalized several times in May and June. A suspect detained in June was charged with the more serious crime of “mockery over the bodies of the dead and their burial motivated by ethnic hatred,” according to the Union of Councils, instead of the lesser hooliganism charge.
