Bills allow revoking of terrorists’ citizenship
Measures to revoke the citizenship of Israeli Arab terrorists and their families advanced in the Israeli parliament.
The Knesset approved the first reading of two bills Wednesday. One gives the interior minister the power to take away the Israeli identification cards that grant permanent resident status to Arab residents of East Jerusalem. Another revokes the citizenship or permanent residency status.
The bills were approved hours after an Israeli Arab used a bulldozer to overturn and crush an Israeli bus and several cars on Jaffa Street in the heart of Jerusalem, killing at least three and injuring dozens. The attacker was a resident of East Jerusalem with a blue Israel identity card.
The bills will require two more readings and time in committee to become law.
