Sderot mayor blames media

Sderot’s mayor chastised the international media for ignoring the plight of his bombarded Israeli town.

Eli Moyal made his statements during his appearance Friday on the prestigious BBC news program “Hardtalk.”

“If you’re a kid in Sderot, you’re refusing to go outside of your home and when you have to go, you must always calculate 10 seconds from the nearest shelter,"said Moyal, who is visiting Britain as a guest of the local Zionist federation. “This is a story never told by the international media.”

Sderot has been hit by more than 7,000 Kassam rockets in the past seven years. Twelve residents have been killed in the attacks and hundreds wounded. Many more are suffering from mental disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder.

Moyal quoted a recent study led by Tel Aviv and Hebrew universities which found that nearly 100 percent of the children in Sderot are suffering from some form of post-traumatic stress disorder.
