House committee nods to Jewish refugees

The U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee approved a resolution calling for equal treatment of Jewish refugees in any peace deal.

“For any comprehensive Middle East peace agreement to be credible and enduring, the agreement must address and resolve all outstanding issues relating to the legitimate rights of all refugees in the Middle East, including Jews, Christians, and other populations displaced from countries in the region,” reads the non-binding resolution referred Wednesday to the full House.

Such a policy, were it adopted by any U.S. administration, would help limit Palestinian refugee claims against Israel.

The bipartisan resolution, approved unanimously, is sponsored by Reps. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), Joseph Crowley (D- N.Y.) and Mike Ferguson (R-N.J.).
