Egyptians kill Palestinian at border
Gunfire erupted at the crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip a day after the border was sealed.
A Palestinian was killed in Monday’s violence.
After Egyptian forces refused to allow Gazans stuck in Egypt to return home, Gazan demonstrators threw rocks at the Egyptians. The Egyptians first threw rocks before using tear gas and live ammunition to subdue the crowd.
In addition to the dead Palestinian man, at least 44 people were wounded, Ha’aretz reported.
Late Monday evening, Ha’aretz cited Palestinian sources as saying that Egyptian troops at the border crossing again were allowing free passage. On Jan. 23, Palestinians blew up the border crossing fence, and the Egyptians had been allowing them free passage until Sunday.
