Email defends Obama
Barack Obama’s New York staff sent out an email defending him against recent smears.
Rudi Shenk, Obama’s New York state director, sent an email Thursday to “set the record straight” about Obama’s religion and his views on Israel.
Obama staffers have struggled to contain the damage from numerous emails circulated among Jewish leaders that falsely claim Obama is a Muslim, studied in an Islamic academy, and took his oath of office on a Koran. Obama himself spent more than 20 minutes on the phone with Jewish reporters this week in which he took pains to stress his commitment to Israel. Jewish leaders have also spoken out in his defense, as have a number of editorials in Jewish newspapers.
“Even if you do not plan to endorse Senator Obama, please counter these false rumors that have been specifically targeted at our community,” Shenk wrote.
