Jvoices blog will pay writers 8 cents

The Jvoices blog will symbolically compensate its writers in solidarity with the Writers Guild strike.

Jvoices will pay 8 cents per post for every day it remains on the Web site’s front page from now through June. The amount, intended to generate increased awareness about and support for the current labor strike by the Writers Guild of America, is a reference to the guild’s demand to double the writers residual payment for DVDs from 4 cents to 8 cents.

“In a symbolic display of support for the Writers Guild, and in a concrete show of appreciation for JVoices contributors who provide valuable content, JVoices commits to compensating its writers with this symbolic amount,” said founder and editor Cole Krawitz. “As an online platform with over 20 contributors, we are all too intimately aware of how important the Internet will only continue to become for creators of media and art.”

Jvoices, located at http://www.jvoices.com, provides fresh commentary from established and emerging Jewish academics, religious leaders, Talmudic scholars, advocates, artists and activists covering areas of Jewish thought such as religion, identity, and progressive political and social justice issues.
