Kosher Japanese resturant opens in Ukraine

Those with a yen for kosher sushi in Ukraine now have an option.

A kosher Japanese restaurant and tavern opened in the city of Dnepropetrovsk.  Panchovillo will be under the supervision of a mashgiach, or kashrut supervisor, and open weekdays.

Jews and guests of the city attended a tasting where they sampled kosher sushi, sashimi, rolls and other Japanese specialties.

“Our menu will be updated on a weekly basis and soon will also offer Japanese-style salads and soups,” said Rabbi Arie Nizevich, a Chabad Lubavitch rabbi who is overseeing the new project.

In addition to Panchovillo, Dnepropetrovsk features a kosher cafe, as well as a cafe and a club with kosher departments. Ukraine’s third largest city has about 50,000 Jews in a total population of 1.04 million.
