Independent analysts say Israel did bomb a partially built nuclear reactor in Syria last month.
Satellite images appear to corroborate reports that Israel bombed a nascent nuclear reactor in Syria on Sept. 6, according to David Albright and Paul Brannan of the Institute for Science and International Security.
The scientists said in an interview published Wednesday in the Washington Post that they used satellite photographs to locate the likely site of the mysterious airstrike.
The target, they posit, was a compound in northern Syria that included a structure resembling a North Korean nuclear reactor. The sparsely populated outlying area and a small nearby airstrip appeared to confirm a secret project was being built there.
“I’m pretty convinced that Syria was trying to build a nuclear reactor,” Albright told the Post.
Syria has said Israel struck a partially built military building and denied seeking nuclear weapons. Israel has not commented on the raid.
